Is it OK to play sports when wearing braces?

Will wearing braces interfere with my musical instruments?

Are there special maintenance needed for teeth with braces?
You’ll need to take extra good care of your teeth because healthy teeth move faster. If you are wearing braces, you should avoid sticky, hard, crunchy, and chewy foods. You should also not bite your fingernails or any hard objects like a pen or pencil. Cleaning teeth with braces take more time and precision and you need to do it everyday to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

On the Internet, I see ads claiming I can have perfect teeth with 1-2 visits to the dentist. Will it also straighten my teeth?
Veneers are only designed to cover teeth imperfections like broken or dark teeth. To straighten teeth, you need orthodontic devices that will move the teeth to their proper position.

I don’t like braces because they’re going to attract unwanted attention. Do I have other options?
Yes, of course. There are now alternatives to traditional braces such as lingual braces, which have brackets attached behind the teeth. There’s also ceramic braces which are less visible compare. Finally, there are invisible aligner trays which can be used to correct some alignment problems.

If I have a stud in my tongue, will it be a problem if I wear orthodontic devices?
Tongue piercing jewelry may contribute to the breakage of braces and even cause gum and teeth damage. Avoid it if possible.

What’s the difference between a general dentist and an orthodontist?
A general dentist and an orthodontist both studied and finished dental school. However, orthodontists are required to undergo an additional 2-3 years of formal education to become a licensed practitioner.
