Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that dates back to the Ancient Egyptian civilization. Archaeologists discovered mummies with crude metal bands tied around their teeth using catgut in an attempt to correct any misalignment. In the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a surge in development in this field and the bandeau, which is a form of dental appliance, was invented by Pierre Fauchard, the Father of Dentistry. Later on, the ability to separate overcrowded teeth was also developed by Christophe-Francois Delabarre who used swelling threads and inserted them between each tooth.
Today, orthodontics has come a long way in shaping and correcting teeth alignment problems. Highly skilled and gifted orthodontists can shape dazzling smiles while ensuring that the teeth are able to function optimally.
